The Guest House – A home away from home

A New Resource for Persons with Dementia and their Family Caregivers

The Guest House is a home-like 12 bedroom bungalow providing short and long-term respite care from a few hours in an evening, perhaps, to a couple of weeks. The program is designed for individuals with early to mid-stage dementia, and provides needed relief for the family caregiver.

The Alzheimer Society of Ottawa, Carefor Health and Community Services, and the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre have partnered to develop and operate this innovative and much-needed option for respite care. The Guest House has been built on the grounds of the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre at 1750 Russell Road in Ottawa, and opened for clients in March 2007.

For information on the program, please contact the Guest House Program Manager at
