Fundraising Campaign Launched
Brief History
In 1999, the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa held a
Dementia Care Forum followed by a city-funded Dementia Respite
Care Research Study in 2000. The #1 priority identified by both
the Forum and the research was the urgent need for appropriate
residential respite for people with Alzheimer Disease and
related dementia so their family caregivers could take a
well-deserved break.
The Alzheimer Society joined with the Victorian
Order of Nurses Ottawa-Renfrew County Branch and The Perley and
Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre to formulate a solution. The
result - plans to build a single-level, home-like bungalow now
known as The Guest House – A home away from home.
Fundraising underway
March 9, 2006, the three partnering
organizations unveiled architects’ renderings of the Guest
House, and officially launched the $2.5 M fundraising campaign. The Guest House – A home away from home open for business in March 2007.
